5. Analyse the following Case Study:
Consumer Producrts India Ltd (CPIL) is engaged in the business of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) with awide range of products. It started its business in India in 1881 as abranch of amultinational company. The branch concentated on importing goods from overseas and marketing these in India The business of this branch flourished manifold and the baranch was converted into CPIL. The company keeps on analysing its environment on regular basis. Its perceptions about the Pre-liberlisation of Indian economy are as follows:
(a) The single most important factor which affects the Indian business is Govt's policy towards industrial and agricultural development of the country.
(b) The Govt puts more emphasis on manufacturing rather than marketing. Therefore, further scope of development for overseas companies operating in India lies in the area of manufacturing.
(c) CPIL being in non-core sector, may not be taken favourably by the Govt.
(d) Since the company isa treng setter in marketing FMCG, it attracts attention of Govt and people equally.

During 1990s, Govt adopted an approch for linking the Indian economy with global economy. In this linking process, efforts were made to provided more freedom for doing. Business not only for Indian businessmen but also overseas businessmen. This is post-liberated era. Based on this approach of Govt, CPIL has Perceived its environment as follows:
(i) There would be more growing demand for consumer products.
(ii)There would be intense competition not only among the existing players but also from new entrants, particulary from global companies.
(iii) Quality, products innovation, and price would be determining factors for success.
(IV) There would be lot of business restructing to focus on core competence for developing strategic advantage.

Questions:
(1) Discuss the extent to which you agree with CPILs perception of its environment in pre-liberalised and post-liberlised eras
(2) What stategies will you suggest to CPIL to maintain its position in the post -liberated era?
