Global Cancer Concern India (GCCI)- Free home Care for Cancer Patients
Global Cancer Concern India (GCCI) is a premiere NGO working nationwide, committed and dedicated to the cause of cancer sufferers for the last nine years. It is a registered, secular, apolitical and non-profit organization. It has a wide network to accomplish its mission with regional centres at Delhi (NCR), Chandigarh, Bhopal, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata.GCCI was raised and registered as a Trust on 6th March 1998 by Late Major General R.S.Pannu who dedicated his life to the service of humanity. He is remembered as a legendry and a philanthropist for his services as Director General of HelpAge India for over 12 years. He had several accreditations to his credit at national and international levels eg, Vice-President of International Federation on Aging; Advisor, Asia to HelpAge International; Advisor, London and British Executive Services Overseas (BESO). After sudden demise of General Pannu on 9th October 2004, Mrs. Inderjit K. Pannu, who was already a Trustee, very kindly consented to accept the unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees to take over as President and Managing Trustee of GCCI to continue accomplishment of his mission and vision.
As a mark of tribute and gratitude to the founder father, GCCI's Home Care Services Project has been named as "General Pannu's Home Care Service."
Prior to GCCI's inception, Global Cancer Concern UK (now Global Cancer Care UK), provided valuable experience and expertise for palliative care in India as also trained a nucleus of about 50 Indian Doctors and Nurses in UK who later became the alumni group. They have always provided valuable expertise to GCCI when needed. Today, GCCI uses some of the alumni as resource persons to train other medical staff in the country. The motivated trainees in turn move back into their hospitals in different parts of the country to proliferate effective cancer care. We extend a heartfelt gratitude for the lead they provided to GCCI and look forward to their enthusiastic participation in expanding our network of Outreach Cancer Nursing Services.
In 2004, fifteen volunteers undertook an 'Auto Rickshaw Rally' and raised funds with a target of funding 4-5 Rickshaw Teams each with a nurse and driver. They drove 500 miles through the rugged terrain of Rajasthan and its busy towns in order to make delivery to GCCI.
