Actress Sneha has been assigned to don

Actress Sneha has been assigned to don the lead role in a movie which is to be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. This film is an inspired version of the Vijayashanthi starrer 'Karthavyam' which was released in the 1980s.

The action-packed flick featuring Vijayashanthi as a honest police officer was loaded with action. She fought corrupt politicians and police officers in the movie. This performance fetched her the National Award for best actress.

Sneha has reportedly agreed to do the remake of the movie which would be directed by Aarthy Kumar. The latter had directed films including 'Sound Party' featuring Sathyaraj before.

Nikita is turning bold

Shedding her image of homely girl, Nikita is turning bold. She first did negative character in Don in which she performed a bold scene too. She wore minimal clothes in a scene in Don. Now, in Saroja, a bilingual, Nikita is also doing very sexy item song and indulges in a scene where is required to show off her assets like a vamp. With no big film offers, she seems to turning to such characters.

Saroja is directed by Venkat Prabhu and stars Srihari, Prakash Raj and Vaibhav as the male lead while kajol is the main heroine. It is hitting on Sep 5th

Nag's 'King' going to hit screen on Dec 19th

After celebrating his 49th birthday with fans in the morning, Nagarjuna met the media to speak about his current film - King. Made on Kamakshi Kala Movies, the film is taking shape briskly as it’s slated for release in third week of December. Nagarjuna, Sreenu Vytla and story writers Kona Venkat - Gopi spoke to the media.

Director Sreenu said that the making of this film is a little different from that of his previous films as ‘King’ marks the brand of Nag and that the film would be a big treat to Nag fans. “Lot of care has been taken in every shot to get the perfection and all the credit goes only to Nag,” he said.

One of the writers Kona Venkat was in full of appraisals for Sreenu for his brilliant handling of script written by them. “Siva Prasad Reddy’s commitment for this project is simply great. This script is a tailor made for Nag”, said Venkat.

Nag was in full of praise for Sreenu for his tremendous job. Devi Sri Prasad music and Trisha’s performance are also another attractions, he said. Further speaking he announced that he is introducing his son Naga Chaitanya on his Dad’s birthday, September 20. Nagarjuna was in full of joy while speaking about his son’s film entry. He even declared that a project on Naga Chaitanya is likely to begin very soon in the direction of Sreenu Vytla and the production would be handled by his close friend Siva Prasad Reddy.

The producer of ‘King’ Siva Prasad Reddy kept in suspense what he is going to speak about the film on December 19 and wished his good friend Nag “A very Happy Birthday”.

Desinger PRAJARAJYAM FLAG?

Chiranjeevi displayed the flag that his party Prajarajyam would use amidst lakhs of fans at Tirupati. The flag was unveiled by a handicapped person from the audience. The flag, which has broad white and green colors, has a bright red sun in the middle with 24 rays emitting. And also an orange line encircles the sun. Chiranjeevi explained the significance of each of these colors. White stands for clean governance and transparency, green for flourishing, sun as marking the source of energy and pointing to a new revolution, 24 rays standing for 24 hours of service and the orange circle as the smile on each and every household.

The design is apt for the agenda that Chiranjeevi narrated of the party. But who designed the flag for Chiranjeevi? Who is the Pingali venkayya (who designed Indian Flag) of Praja Rajyam? That is a very closely guarded information and even some of the close associates of Chiranjeevi did not know the design of the flag until it was unveiled on the stage. In this era of information spreading faster than the thought, Chiranjeevi and his associates should be applauded on how they could closely guard this information when the flag is designed by some one with in the industry. Reliable sources said that the credit of the flag design goes to noted art director in the industry, Anand Sai. Also, Maruthi Sivatma, the executive producer of A Film by Aravind, seem to have provided the key inputs on the design of the Prajarajyam logo.

Shekar Kammula in RGV's footsteps

Telugu film industry produces more number of films than Bollywood. But the artists and technicians from Bollywood continue to have a fascination for working in Bollywood. Ram Gopal Varma made a successful shift to Hindi films after making some films in Telugu. Now director Shekar Kammula, who made such hit films like Anand, Godavari and Happy Days is following in the footsteps of Ram Gopal Varma. He is now set to direct a Hindi film. The details about his new film will be announced shortly.

NTR-Vinayak film postponed?

Junior NTR was all set to do a film directed by Vinayak some time in September. Even the muhurat of the untitled movie was held a while ago where Kodali Nani and Vamsi were announced as the producers. NTR was to have donned khaki in his role as an upright and honest cop. But the film is still in the story discussion stage and nothing is resolved. This would have been the third film where Junior NTR and Vinayak would team up. Their previous two films were Aadi and Samba. Ileana has been roped as the heroine; this will be the second time that she would be paired with Junior NTR. The first time was in Rakhi. Though it was planned as a Sankrathi release, sudden delays meant that the film’s regular shoot kept getting postponed. Though the film was meant to start shooting from September, it might be postponed to February. Mani Sharma will be scoring the music and Dasarath will be penning the screenplay.

HOMAM - REVIEW

Film: Homam

Cast: Jagapathi Babu, J D Chekravarthy, Mamta Mohandas, Mahesh Manjrekar, Pradeep Rawat, M S Narayana and others
Dialogues: Kona Venkat
Music: Nitin and J D Chekravarthy
Background score: Amar Mohile
Editing: Banodaya
Cinematography: Bharani K Dharan
Lyrics: Suddala Ashok Teja
Stunts: Selva
Production Designer: Suman Varma
Produced by: Kiran Kumar Koneru
Story, screenplay and directed by: J D Chekravarthy
Release date: August 28, 2008

What’s it about!
A sincere police cop Vishwanth (Pradeep Rawat) picks up Malli (Jagapathi Babu), son of a criminal and makes him an under cover cop. Malli infiltrates the mob syndicate run by Daddy (Mahesh Manjrekar). On the other hand, Daddy makes Chandu (J D Chekravarthy), a rag picker, a police officer. Chandu gives all the information about police to Daddy while Malli passes the details about Daddy’s business to Vishwanath. Both Malli and Chandu land in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy. The rest of the movie is all about how they uncover the identity of the other man to save themselves.

Analysis

Actor J D Chekravarthy has directed couple of Hindi films and he makes debut as director with Homam in Telugu. He has taken the basic premise from Oscar award winning The Departed (which itself is remake of Infernal Affairs). Although he has incorporated some localized content like mother sentiment angle and romantic thread to both the male leads, Homam by and large is replica of The Departed.

Jagapathi Babu’s performance, pre-interval episode, mother-sentiment scenes have worked out well. First half of the movie goes with crispness while the second half is dragged to some extent. Some ‘thrilling moment’s and episodes might attract Telugu audiences. On the downside, unnecessary songs and morbid romantic thread have spoiled the proceedings. J D fails to maintain the tempo. On the whole, the film is okay to watch.

Performances

Jagapathi Babu as spirited cop excels. His performance is big asset. In a scene where he tries to explain his mother that he is not rowdy but real cop and that he’s not telling lies, Jagapathi Babu comes out knockout performance. J D Chekravarthy is perfect foil. In fact, he is too good as actor than director. Mamta Mohandas and the other newcomer in the film are wasted and have nothing to talk about. The much talked about Jagapathi and Mamta's erotic song is not included in the final movie. Mahesh Manjrekar does okay as mob leader. Pradeep Rawat in a positive role brings freshness. Music by J D Chekravarthy is biggest minus to the film. None of the songs are good to ears nor are them shot eye-catching. It can be done away the songs. Sakshi Sivanand as item bomb fails to make an impact. Cinematography Dharani is good. So is Bhanodaya’s editing work. M S Narayana’s comedy track is okay but hinders the pace of the film.

Bottom-line!

Homam has some interesting episodes and has good performance by Jagapathi Babu. The film has good first half. Those who have not seen the original The Departed may like it. For others, it seems just an okay film. On the whole, it is an average fare

Nayantara refused Prabhas

Billa, a remake of a 1980s Amitabh Bachchan starrer, was one of Rajinikanth’s major hits. In 2007, Ajith changed the bell-bottomed, polka-dot waistcoated Billa into a trendier, more cutting-edge mafia don that Gen Now lapped up, turning Billa and therefore Ajith into instant hits. Now Billa is all set to speak in Telugu. The buzz is that Prabhas will be acting in a remake of Billa, produced by his home banner Gopikrishna Movies; Meher Ramesh of Kantri fame will direct it. The movie is planned for a September launch. Since Nayantara had created huge waves with her bikini act in Billa opposite Ajith, Prabhas approached her to do it all over again. But Nayantara politely refused since like the famous saying, golden actions are never repeated! Nayantara’s latest release Satyam (Tamil) opposite Vishal is doing quite well in theatres globally.
